How Singing at Karaoke Helps Me Deal With Stress
Ok, so I know not everyone sings karaoke, but you can get some of these same benefits from singing at home , humming, or practicing meditation or simple breathing exercises. Read on to see how singing at karaoke alleviates my stress.
It’s something that I enjoy and like to do. Studies show that when we make time doing things for ourselves that are enjoyable, it helps us to relax. Karaoke can really take as long as you want, but generally, one session runs from anywhere to 3-5 hours in one night.
Singing at home - I practice at home when my kids are with me. The added benefit of dancing to the music, spending time with my kids and being with family in general are all great stress relievers.
Breathing - anyone who can sing knows that you need to have great breathe control when you sing. Breathing techniques are a wonderful way for you to get your diaphragm in shape, but breathing techniques are also used in meditation and yoga to help you relax and let go of stress.
Being with friends or in a social group. I work from home, and I am also a full time stay-at-home mom. So despite being busy 24/7 and never getting my task list completed any day, I still need to see other adults. I need to have social interactions other than just with my kids in order to maintain a healthy mindset. I need to relate to other individuals that can understand and relate to me. In short order, I need to be with friends.
I use karaoke and going out with my friends as an excuse to do my makeup. I do makeup for a few reasons:
* To make myself look and feel good
* To have content for my makeup channel on
YouTube, Sandra Dahl Beauty
* Simply for the artistry of creating (something beautiful).
I am an artist by nature and this leads us into the next way karaoke helps me alleviate stress:
I love creating and singing is an art form. I love making things look and sound beautiful. I strive to practice and get better with every song I sing. It’s amazing how much a person can increase their skill at something if they practice.
This leads me into my final reason:
I love to master things. I love taking time and putting energy into things that:
1) I enjoy doing
2) Doing things I know I’m good at but can improve myself with time, energy and practice.
3) Doing or creating things that I know other people will enjoy.
When you can find a passion or hobby that makes you feel good and can help with stress, I think it’s a gem! Make sure you do something you enjoy every day! Even if it’s not a big thing, it will still help you feel good about yourself and when you feel good, you do good and the less stressed you are.
Thanks so much for reading and we’ll see you next week!
