Gaining Your First 100 Followers on Medium
Today, I want to join the sheep herd and talk about this 100 minimum followers (before gaining entry into Medium’s partner program) business. I myself have recently reached this minimum requirement at the time of writing this article, but I am speaking to all the newbies out there who are just joining Medium, as well as anyone who participated in any of the 100 follower challenge articles on this platform (myself included).
I have personally been on Medium for over two years now. When I first started, this program requirement was not yet in place, so I entered the partner program quite easily. I started making a few dollars here and there, and thought my presence would grow with time. Well, I grossly underestimated how long that would take. Fast forward two years, and I was still at 30-some followers. Despite religiously posting new blogs weekly, every week, I did not join any of the challenges to gain the 100 follower minimums. Keep in mind that I am a full time mom of two kids, currently expecting a third and I am running my full time business from my home, with said kids present. If that’s not enough, my husband works out of town most of the time and is home for about one week every month. So, I am strictly on my own, figuring out things as I go. That being said, I lost my focus on Medium for awhile.
One of my quarter three goals for this year was to fix that and focus more on an audience on this platform. So, I read numerous articles on the 100 follower challenge, and I found myself with over 100 followers in three days. (Yes, it took longer than others who claim you can do it in 24 hours).
As an owner of a website, a sticker shop, a blog and two YouTube channels, I can tell you right now that visits to your website or subscribers are great, but what really counts is the interaction or feedback that you get on your content. This is not just from a financial stand-point, but one of personal satisfaction as well. I jump with joy when my subscriber count increases daily on my YouTube channels, but what really counts are the comments from my viewers, or even the higher view time that I get when people actually watch my content. This helps with gaining new subscribers or followers, but also, it helps you know what people are enjoying about your work, and maybe what they’re not enjoying. This is key to becoming a great content creator. (This is why being a creator is so hard - you’re not just creating the content, but you need to follow up with the stats and analytics as well to see where you can improve to become even better). Doing this on your own, as an amateur can be really challenging. I have other articles on Youtube and business that you can check out if you find this to be true). These articles are also available on Medium as well.

In the end, I believe that challenges such as reaching the 100 minimum follower requirement to enter into Mediums Partner Program are beneficial for beginners. We all start at zero, and if you have goals and ambitions, you need to start somewhere. If we all follow each other, it provides support for new writers and helps to grow their audience.
However, if we go that one step further and actually read each others articles, it provides even more support. Comment on things you disagree or agree with; clap for those articles that give you “yes!” vibes. Remember, it’s not a race to see who gets to the highest mark first. You are only racing against yourself. Give yourself a challenging goal but then remember to pat yourself on the back when you reach a milestone. Those milestones are key to give you courage and motivation to keep writing, to keep filming and keep working your ass off. Do what you love, and hopefully some good people along the way will choose to support you.
With that being said, let’s continue supporting the beginners. If you need 100 followers, or if you choose to support me, I’ll support you back and follow you. Let’s clap for each other and leave supportive comments. Let’s talk :)
