Upleveling Your Life Through Change

Hey friends! Welcome back! This week, I want to talk about how you can uplevel your entire life though change. Have you ever heard the phrase “Progress is impossible without change”? Most people fear change; change is hard. Things are easier if you don’t have change - easier maybe, but you also remain the same. How can you use change to your advantage to up-level your life and yourself? Keep reading to find out!

Could you imagine living in the same house from the day you were born to the day you died? Imagine that you couldn’t change a single thing - the items in the house, the decorations, or the placement of objects. What would that be like? Things would age, you might get bored of the same decor and the same walls, and you know why? The house is just a material object with no consciousness, but since you’re human, you are a conscious being. You think, you experience, you speak and understand language, and most importantly, you have emotions. You would get bored of the same thing day after day, and the same work day after day.

Sometimes change happens because you want it to and sometimes it happens when you least expect it. For example, you start getting bored and decide to pick up a new hobby, or switch your job. Unexpected change might mean a death in a family or a lay-off from work. Either way, the universe is directing you to take that step through the open doors. Sometimes the unexpected changes might not be wanted at the time, but they’re what are needed to push you in the right direction.

I am a huge advocator of change, and I use my goals to accomplish the changes I wish to make on myself and in my life. An example is creating a goal of focusing on self-care to maintain my health and well-being. We recently had a son diagnosed with Cystic Fibrosis, and I found that I was floundering in a sea of the unknown. I was so worried and anxious and using all my extra time to try and care for him (and the rest of my family) that my care got left to the wayside. I didn't have time to shower, I wasn’t eating healthy and basically not doing a single thing for myself. A wise friend said that in order to care for those around me, I had to fill my own cup first. While I know this in my head, I found it difficult to implement in real life. While things are better now, I still find it challenging to make time for me. Usually my business needs get put before my personal needs, because I want to succeed at something outside of having children and working a plain job I hate, just to pay the bills.

Needless to say, things weren’t working for a short period once I brought my baby home. I quit working on my business, because not only did we have a new baby at home, this new baby had some medical needs that required extra time and attention. It took a bit before I was able to handle things again. Even at that rate, things were slow going. It was a time in my life where I needed to put my work on the back burner for awhile to focus on my mental health, and medical care for my little one.

I implemented a new business schedule, changed a few things around for my business needs to accommodate the extra time I needed at home, and I loosened the reins a bit for myself. I tried not to put so much pressure on myself (when you have your own business, and you work for yourself, you’re truly your own boss, and you’re the only one to keep motivation and production/productivity going).

In the end, the changes I had to make opened new doors for my business. I was able to see projects in a new light and get a new lease on the creative side of things. Change can definitely put a new lease on life and can let you see the other side to get a new perspective on things you might not ordinarily have seen before the change.

Change is not something we should fear, but something we should look forward to. All it takes is a little adaptation and creativity. Make new routines for yourself and you will find that the new will feel like you have been doing it forever. (That’s when you should change again!) You will never get anywhere in life if you don’t implement change in some aspect. Move your furniture around in your house and it will feel new again! Paint the walls to get that fresh feeling. Making new goals for yourself every 12 weeks will keep you on your toes and help you get more accomplished in your life than you ever thought possible! (Check out ‘The 12 Week Year!’’)

Good luck in all your endeavours!
