Holiday Shopping: Lessen the Stress

Hi all you Holiday Shoppers! Are you wondering how you are going to get everything done before the big day? Or, are you the type to start shopping early and then keep on buying because you forget about all the stuff you got months ago? Or…is there a happy middle ground?

I have been at all three of these stages at some point in my life. This year, I think I finally found that magic balanced middle ground. In an already crazy world, it has helped to lessen my anxiety just a little bit. (For talk about anxiety, have you read my previous post from last Monday?)

I have three main tips to get you through your Holiday Shopping. True, it may be late for this year, but the good thing about Christmas is it always comes back at the same time every year! Keep on reading to find out what works for me.

Prepare Throughout The Year!

  • Starting in January, start putting money away into a sinking fund (money you set aside for a specific reason like Christmas shopping).

  • Buy stuff on sale throughout the year that you would buy specifically for someone anyway (i.e. something you know they would like).

  • If you don’t buy stuff throughout the year, shop early to beat the holiday rush (i.e. starting in September or October) Most stores have their Holiday displays up by this time anyway.

  • Use a planner to map out dates and plan it out!

    Take it Online!

  • These days, you can find pretty much everything online, even most small businesses.

  • You will save gas and time from having to go out.

  • Most online shops offer free shipping around the Holidays or with a minimum amount spent.

  • Amazon Prime Membership, for example is a little over $8 a month, but you get all prime items within two days!

Keep to Your Budget

  • Create a budget for yourself if you don’t already have one.

  • Don’t get carried away! It doesn't matter how little or how much money you make, or how much you’re planning on spending during the holidays. Keep to your list of what you originally intended to buy. It’s easy to get carried away if you have a lot of money or if you have kids.

  • Create a limit for yourself of a certain number of items per person or dollar amount. (i.e. in Secret Santa Gift Exchanges, usually, everyone will buy a gift around the same amount so everyone receives approximately the same value of gift). Always have discussions with people you are planning on exchanging gifts with. A little communication goes a long way, and you can work out the details before you get stressed out.

  • Don’t be discouraged if you don’t think you have enough money to buy gifts for people. The Holidays are all about giving. Home made gifts are amazing and can be really thoughtful. (I know my grandma loves my raisin spice cookies!) Also, the people in your life who love you understand and don’t expect anything superficial. Kindness is the best gift of all! Share the love!

I hope you all have a wonderful holiday season. Stay safe, be kind and try to be positive during this crazy time. Wishing all of you love and hope for the future! From my home to yours, Merry Christmas

Love Sandra ❤️
