Hello and welcome back to my blog! First off, let me begin by saying that I am not a movie or tv. show critic. I read a lot more than I watch tv, so the fact that I remember what I watched in 2022 is a blatant miracle. I have spots in my bullet journal and my Cultivate What Matters Goal Planner to record what I watched, read or listened to each month, and I’m lucky if I remember to write them down.
My very first favourite was Love Island, which aired over summer. Whether the amount of tv I watch is determined by choice or time, I tend to choose shows over entertainment value over education, since my education is mostly from reading. That being said, Love Island in my opinion is one of the best, most fast-paced trash tv. shows I could watch. I live for the drama in this show and have watched the US version ever since it came out. I remember having to download Crave in order to watch this one, since I didn't have access to it anywhere else here in Canada. But, it did provide me with plenty of drama and entertainment and I live for that show every summer.
The next show/series that I watched was The Discovery of Witches. Now this was mostly because I had read the books and I wanted to see how the tv series compared. I always do that to myself - no wonder the producers get so much criticism. It must be hard to pick the right actors for the job; no matter who they decide on, some people are never happy. I was satisfied with the actress who played Dianna Bishop, but Matthew really disappointed me. I did enjoy the overall story line, and where the book was a bit dry, the series picked up the pace.
I also really enjoyed The Wheel of Time. I’ve always loved fantasy, especially wizards and witches, and this show which aired on Amazon Prime did not disappoint. It sort of reminded me of The Lord of the Rings in a way, without the boring parts. I always find the first episode is dry in any show until you really start to watch and get into it.
Another Drama that I enjoy purely for the fun of it is Dynasty. Now I know most soap operas are about rich people and rich people problems, but this one, Fallon had me all the way. Her sassy and take charge attitude had me at hello. I had watched the previous Seasons the year before on Netflix, and just recently, the newest Season that was released this year. I usually watch my shows while I’m eating dinner, since I‘m sitting down anyway (I find I can’t just “sit” and watch tv - I’d much rather be reading a book), so that’s my excuse.
I adored House of Dragons, even if it was just the theme song at the beginning that had me coming back for more. I found with this one, as with the main show, Game of Thrones, it took me a few episodes to get into it. However, when I did, I really enjoyed the intrigues. There were violent scenes, which I sometimes shy away from (the ending was so devastating for me) and being pregnant myself at the time, I was devastated when anything happened to children or babies. My biggest problem with this show was the character switch that happened soon after the show started. I like seeing characters develop as they play their parts, and the switch to new actors ruined that for me.
A new recent discovery that I just started watching at the end of November 2022 is Wednesday. It’s an off-shoot from the Addams Family and it’s fantastic. I think Wednesday’s character is perfect for the role and I even admire that Christina Ricci made a showing. I’ve always admired Catherine Zeta-Jones and so far, this show has me hooked. The pirahna scene - chef’s kiss!
As I said, I’m a much better reader than I am watcher of tv, so that’s it for the list! Tell me, have you watched some good shows this year?
Thanks for reading!
Sandra
