I hope everyone is staying warm and safe this winter! Let’s talk about some things that make me feel good. Maybe these are some of your favorites as well!
1. My current book. Unfortunately, I can’t name a specific title, as I read many books every month. I do have my favourites of course, but the most current series I’m working on is by Chandelle LeVaun, called the Coven (There are series within this series, as well as many books in each of them). There’s always something to staying in on a cold winters day, curled up on your couch with a cozy blanket and reading a good book.
2. My Franklin Planner. Is this an obvious? My planner is one of my favourite things all the time. However, using the same reasoning as up above, I somehow don’t feel as guilty staying in and playing with my planner that I do on a warm summer day. Besides for my daily and weekly planner routines, there’s something so satisfying about crossing items off your to-do list. I also love to sit and have a brainstorming session in my planner, whether that’s to brainstorm organization ideas for my home, blog ideas for my upcoming blogs, or even my grocery list for the week ahead.
3. My Erin Condren Weekly Vertical Planner. I have been loving using this planner to plan weekly in because of all the weekly vertical sticker kits I have been using lately. I love having a beautiful decorative planner spread that shows all my activities at a glance. (As of the current posting date of this blog, this has been on the back burner as I just had a baby)!
4. Sitting at Tim Hortons Drinking a Cappuccino with a friend & just talking. I could simply say “coffee shop” here, but I have certain fond childhood memories sitting with my best friend in Tim Hortons doing this same thing. Things have changed since (we both now have kids that require the majority of our time) but it’s still one of my fondest memories. Sometimes, (very rarely), I’ll do this with my husband when I can get a babysitter even if it’s to get out of the house for a change, and have some quiet adult time. It’s also a good thing to do if you have a meeting (one of my goals for the new year is to have monthly budget meetings with my husband to recap the finances) and this is a great time to do that. It’s also a nice feeling to sit in a warm, crowded coffee shop and watch the snow falling outside the window.
5. Packing up the Christmas Decor. To me, this feels similar to spring cleaning. I feel like it’s the end of the season (even though we have a long way to go until spring), and it’s so refreshing to tidy up your space after the season’s festivities. There is less clutter, and it just feels like now the new year can get a move on and we can smash our goals now that the clutter is gone.
6. Sledding. I’m not particularly a fan of winter sports. (I absolutely hate the cold weather and would be very satisfied living in a place that’s warm all year, even if there are very large bugs). However, when I had kids, I realized how fun it is to go sledding when there’s a ton of snow and it’s relatively warm outside. The expression on their faces when they slide down is priceless and these have been some of my best photo ops. Plus, there’s nothing like a nice hot cup of cocoa when your hands and feet feel like they’re about to fall off.
7. The furnace coming on. I have mentioned this one before in another blog, but it’s my favourite because it also reminds me of my childhood a bit and it’s so heartwarming and comfortable to hear the furnace kick in. I usually have my windows closed in winter (we have poor insulation in our home so it always feels like our house is cold), but I could fall asleep to the sound of the furnace every single time. It’s such a comfortable “homey” noise, and makes me feel warm and safe.
Thanks for reading and we’’ll see you next week!
Sandra 😃
