What is reality? It is defined as the state of things as they actually exist, or, existence itself. The problem with this definition is that it is defined in terms of perception. Take time for example - it is defined as the continued (irreversible) sequence of existence. Time is only of value to people who exist in the present, and is of no consequence to animals, inanimate objects (other than their states of being) and people who are no longer alive. Therefore, you could say that we have a perception of time passing because we are conscious beings. Since we are conscious beings with thoughts, emotions and the like, we also see things each through a different lense. In other words, we each perceive things differently about our reality.
If we take perception out of the picture, we could say our reality is factual. There is what there is, and an opinion won’t change the facts. Then, our perception of reality could be likened to a mirror - similar in that what we perceive is a reflection of reality. The thing that changes that reflection is us. Our experiences shape us; in other words, they condition us to be who we are today. This conditioning might make you see one thing, and I might see another. Take famous paintings for example - there are people who argue about what a painting looks like. Even cloud arrangements may look different to people.
What about those people who have a type of second sight? According to the actual definition of second sight, it means to be able to see events that happen in the future, or somewhere far away. I’ve seen it said that second sight is also a way to see into a different dimension of reality. Sometimes visions arise from fasting, meditation rituals and people who suffer from schizophrenia. Who’s to say that some of these cases aren’t the ability to see into a second type of reality?
Maybe people who have second sight are seeing the real reality. The rest of us are so used to seeing the physical world in front of us, that we can’t see what’s really there, or what’s really important. This can be likened to the fact that most of us go through our daily lives, working, keeping out heads down. Are we really living, when we do this? Or just working to survive? We need to open our eyes to see what’s truly important.
Can we change our perceptions of our perceived reality? Maybe if we focus on the important things, and practice gratitude, and positivity, it is actually possible to change your reality. If you treat others as you would want to be treated, and you give your relationships trust and mutual respect, your current reality mirrors the one you actually want, and then, with time and through focus and practice, things start to change. This is a reminder to continually try and practice gratitude - to create a community of giving and kindness. We can manifest anything we want, we just need to visualize a new reality in order to reach our goals.
