Franklin Covey Compact: Week Four
Day 1: Monday, March 17, 2025
Happy Saint Patrick’s Day friends! We’re finally in the home stretch! Even though we still have week five to go (I’ll be planning for it on Thursday), I switch out my monthly setup on Wednesday next week. So, it really doesn’t seem that long, and I’ll be in my new setup - back to classic for me!
I was really trying to get into loving compact - I really was. I think the size is absolutely adorable, and that got me through the first week. The room is most likely the largest factor for me. Classic is just my happy place. (It doesn’t hurt that my largest binder selection is also in classic, so it allows me more choices of what to pick as far as color schemes and binders that will go with my planner kits).
Busy, productive day!
I was thinking that I’m just getting bored with my setup as I usually do. With this smaller compact setup, there’s not as much room for decorative stickers. (I.e. in my classic, I’m able to add a different “theme” each week and it prevents it from getting old on me).
Regardless, I’m getting this intensely excited feeling that I can move into my new classic binder for April. Now that my Planners Anonymous Chapter 14 Unboxing is complete (it posts tomorrow on YouTube), I’ll be getting my dash boards cut for my binder. (Very excited!!)
Day 2: Tuesday, March 18, 2025
Hello! So, I was so excited about getting back into my classic setup that I set it all up today. I usually leave a little bit of the setup for the Wednesday prior to the new month, but I did all the deco and everything. I left the goal page and the master task list and of course, I’ll do a full flip through during the monthly video as well.
As I was doing the monthly setup today, I realized that it is so much easier cutting and preparing dashboards for classic than for compact. Classic are exactly half letter - half a sheet of US sized paper. Compact are a bit more nit-picky to cut. I usually use another dashboard to use as a guide to cut the new one. With the half letter, I measure 5.5 inches and cut using my paper trimmer and it saves so much time!
I’m also missing the decorative process I’ve developed for my half letter. I can’t decorate as much in my compact because of the smaller size.
I’m glad that I’ve done this comparison for the month. It’s one thing to try it for a day or a week, but to have to depend on an entire system for a month tells the truth of whether it truly works for you, or if it doesn’t.
Day 3: Wednesday, March 19, 2025
Another day…another planner page…
These last couple of days, I haven’t had a lot to do. Sometimes when I have a lot of tasks, and I’m in my planner a lot, I feel so important and professional. LOL All funnies aside, it just feels so good when I check off the items. (Either to see the completion of the list, or to actually get the things done).
Tomorrow will be my final Plan With Me in this compact planner for the month of March. I’m very happy. Like I said earlier this week, I have been busy setting up my classic for April.
I went ahead and rewrote all my reference notes for my classic. I was very specific with this task. I really weeded out the unnecessary jargon and kept the stuff that matters. I separated the “reference” notes from previous months, from basic reference notes and also separated out all the personal stuff and put it under it’s own tab. I feel really good about it and I’m all organized and ready for April!
Day 4: Thursday, March 20, 2025
Wow! The first day of spring is finally here! I have been awaiting this day all winter!
I filmed my last weekly plan with me in my compact for March. I realized since I will be using a completely different binder for April, I’ll be stuck in my compact right up until Sunday the 30th, which also happens to be my birthday!
However, you won’t see me plan in my compact again. I will be posting a reel on Instagram of my compact flip for March.
Let me tell you how much will power it takes to stick to a binder you told yourself you would when you want to switch sooo bad!
Day 5: Friday, March 21, 2025
Good day! I lost my motivation today around mid-day. I filmed my Planner Perfect video in a timely fashion (those videos usually take a half hour or less), but when it came time to edit, I just didn’t feel like it. I’m going start calling it the Friday doldrums. LOL
I didn’t have a lot to do today either (as you can see in the above picture). I did some running around later in the afternoon and I also went to karaoke.
Day 6: Saturday, March 22, 2025
Almost done the week! I can’t believe I’ve got one week left in this planner. I was really hoping I could switch everything over on Wednesday when I do my monthly setup for April in my classic, but I forgot that I’m in a completely separate binder so I don’t have an excuse to switch. (I’m actually getting sick of the froggies!). I’m so ready to switch over to Planners Anonymous kits for a change.
I spent today getting my sticker kits and die cuts ready and organized to start planning for next week.
Today was a bit of longer list. My husband was working today, so I didn’t have many qualms about working either. It makes the day go by, that’s for sure. I noticed as I progressed throughout the day, my list got longer and longer.
Again, it doesn’t matter too much that I didn’t finish all my tasks because I can finish everything tomorrow. The only new tasks I’ll have tomorrow are to complete my personal and business reviews for the week.
Day 7: Sunday, March 23, 2025
Welcome to the last day of the week! The countdown is now on. Only seven more days to go until I fully use my classic setup. Also, I’ll start my new blog tomorrow - that will be Week 5, and the last blog in this Planner series.
Today’s planner page is chalk-full of business tasks and some home and personal things. As always, I start out with half a list or less and it grows slowly over the day as things come up.
I always do the most important and time-sensitive tasks first, and everything else follows. With my “like-to-do” tasks, I don’t normally do them in any order, just whenever I feel like. If it’s something I can multi-task as I’m watching my kids, I’ll do that, and if I get some quiet time, I’ll work on filming or video content.
Here’s a snap-shot of my (mid) -day:
This is the last entry for this week, so I won’t see you guys until next week with my fifth and final week!
We’ll talk then!
Cheers,
Sandra 🌈
