Spring Is Coming ‘Round Once More

Hi friends and welcome to this spring edition blog! So we made it through another vicious winter and the days are finally brighter and warmer. I just had to take a moment actually to re-read my Spring Blog from last year. (You can view it here: https://sandradahl.ca/seasonal/countdown-to-spring). I find that not only has my style of writing changed a bit, but I think my attitude has changed a little as well. At the current time of writing, (Feb. 9, 2022) the days are warmer currently than they were last year at this same time. That is not to say that we haven’t had some vicious cold spells this winter though!

I still feel the same way about spring (love it!) but I feel more hopeful. Surely, it has a lot to do with restrictions being lifted (at time of writing), but also there is something different for me personally; something that I cannot even put my finger on. I felt this way at the beginning of the year too, when I wrote my blog on the New Year, https://sandradahl.ca/seasonal/https/sandradahlca/blog-page-url/https/sandradahlca/blog-page-2. Perhaps it’s just hope for the future, but I feel like it’s more than that. It could be that I changed the style of my goal setting just a little (I’ll be writing about the 12 Week Goal Setting Process soon and how it has been a life-changer for me). I feel refreshed, like I have a new beginning, a new start. Do you feel that way too?

One of my favourite past times when I’m relaxing is to sit on the back porch with my coffee. On weekdays, I usually get up at 5:00am - I love to start my days early; there are just so many benefits! I am waiting to hear that one specific bird whistle that I love. I downloaded this app on my iPhone, called “Song Sleuth”. It’s the most wonderful free app that let’s you record birdsong and then actually pinpoints which birds sang. It’s amazing and I think I found my artist: It’s the Black-capped Chickadee! I never would have thought. The joy that its’ song gives me is so wonderful, that thinking about it and spring together have made me feel so positive.

Coming out of the slump of winter is incredibly hard for me. I suffer from SAD (Seasonal Affective Disorder). I have depression-like symptoms every year, at the same time and it is really hard when you have children. I try to keep myself as busy as I can, and as soon as the days warm up, I take my computer outside and I enjoy writing in the sunshine. During the long, cold winter months I take Vitamin D and Vitamin B12 to try and stabilize my moods, but sometimes it’s really hard to do and it doesn't always help. We have been locked inside for too long my friends!

My goals for this spring and summer are to smile at as many people as I can. I will say hello more than I ever have. I will look at that sunshine and glorify in it’s presence. I will take no moment for granted. My morning coffee sitting outside is Gold Star Mama time, and I think we should do things that make us feel good. Do things that make you smile and that you are passionate about. Let’s enjoy this wonderful time of spring and eat, drink and live the warm spring breezes and the smell of lilacs. Wear sandals every day, even when there’s still snow on the ground. There is no limit to the possibilities my friends! Thank you for reading and we will see you next week, same time, same place.
