Things You Might Want To Keep On Your Altar

The last blog I wrote on an altar, was about creating one. You can read that here. You might want to create an altar, but have no idea of what to include. Today, we’ll talk about some of those objects that you could use for your altar.

Gems Stones, Minerals, Rocks:

Stones and rocks are one of the most popular things to have on an altar. Different gemstones, minerals or rocks are used for different purposes. Stones can also be related to the chakra. For example, regular quartz can be used to improve mental and physical energy, stamina and strength. However, rose quartz is a healing crystal and is known as the unconditional love stone. Another popular stone is amethyst (one of my personal favourites). Amethyst is good for calming (you can sleep with one under your pillow to promote pleasant dreams), and it aids in meditation to help let the mind flow. (Note that purple is the centre of enlightenment and is the highest spiritual reach of the chakras). This is why if you have a purple aura, it is closely associated with intuition, psychic abilities, and a connection to the spiritual realm). I always wondered why purple was my favourite color!

Candles:

Different candles mean different things, and you also can use them in your spell work. They are also a pretty edition when you light them up.

Tarot Dice:

You can get some really pretty ones on Amazon, and when you’re not using them, they make a really pretty display.

Incense or Oils:

If you have a pretty incense holder, this is the perfect place for it!

Wand:

You may want to keep your wand (if you have one) with your spiritual menagerie, but again, you might also want to keep it close to yourself as well.

Mortar & Pestal, or Small Bowl:

You can keep these as decoration pieces, or maybe you work with them on a daily basis. Either way, they give your altar a bit of character because the objects you use in your practice are a reflection of yourself.

Tidbits, knick-knacks or objects of power:

Throughout your life, you’ll come across objects that have a certain meaning to you. They can be as simple as a rock from outside, petrified wood, a toy from your childhood or something that finds you. You might come across it and think this is weird, or unusual or incidental. However, let me remind you that in the spiritual realm of witchcraft, there are no coincidences. Everything happens for a reason, and it’s up to you to use your intuition or your power to understand why.
